Updating Awaji Island's scenery

Awaji Island, nurtured by the warm climate and abundant sunshine of the Seto Inland Sea, has been deeply connected to fragrance since ancient times. The culture of incense and medicinal herbs has taken root here, and the wisdom of incorporating plants into daily life thrives.

Now, revitalizing these fallow fields and cultivating vibrant tea trees together with the island's residents is an endeavor to build a new industry while leveraging the region's natural environment.

Utilizing landscaping techniques refined over half a century of working with greenery, and applying uniquely Japanese delicate care and distillation, we aim to produce world-class domestic tea tree oil.

This is a new fragrance culture, inherited from Awaji Island and passed down to the future.

maf's orchard is a former abandoned farm in the Higashiura district, located in the northeastern part of Awaji Island. This area benefits from a warm climate and abundant eastward-facing sunshine.

Using the soil improvement knowledge and techniques cultivated over many years in landscaping, we dedicated time and effort to transform it into a tea tree farm.

The tea trees, grown in rich soil and bathed in sea breezes, embodying the terroir of Awaji Island, are harvested throughout the year. (Orchard tours and distillation viewings are also available by reservation.)

Our distillation facility is located near the plantation so that freshly harvested tea tree can be distilled immediately.

The distillation equipment we use employs a steam distillation method with indirect heating, unlike the conventional direct heating method.

Furthermore, its completely sealed structure ensures that the rich and delicate aroma inherent in the raw material is extracted without loss, allowing us to produce essential oils that compromise neither quality nor fragrance.
